Norwegian language courses A1 for beginners

The course is designed for students with no previous experience of learning Norwegian. The course program will help you master basic communication skills and understand simple conversational situations.

About the course

Upon completion of the Norwegian A1 course, you will be able to:

  • Basic grammar: understand simple grammar structures and rules.
  • Basic vocabulary: use vocabulary about everyday topics such as family, work, food and hobbies.
  • Speaking: carry on simple conversations, introduce yourself and ask and answer questions.
  • Reading: read and understand short texts such as advertisements, messages and simple articles.
  • Writing: write simple sentences and messages, fill in forms and write short notes.
  • Listening: understand the main ideas of simple conversations and dialogues about familiar topics.
  • Culture: get to know Norwegian cultural aspects, traditions and customs.

Course grammar material:

  • Alphabet and pronunciation: Basics of the Swedish alphabet and phonetics.
  • Nouns: Definite and indefinite articles, gender of nouns, plural.
  • Adjectives: Declension of adjectives by gender and number, degrees of comparison.
  • Verbs: Conjugation of regular verbs in the present tense; stems of irregular verbs.
  • Pronouns: Personal, possessive and demonstrative pronouns.
  • Interrogative constructions: Formation of questions and use of interrogative words.
  • Simple sentences: Structure of affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences.
  • Numbers: Counting from 1 to 100 and number stems.
  • Prepositions: Basic prepositions of place and time.
  • Tenses: Present tense; introduction to past and future tenses.
