Latvian language for Ukrainians

Polyglot Language Center organizes free Latvian language courses for Ukrainians with the support of the Society Integration Foundation (SIF). The aim of the program is to provide Ukrainian citizens with the opportunity to learn the Latvian language. Courses are available both in-person and online for levels A1, A2, B1, and B2.

About the course

The program “Latvian Language Training for the Civilian Population of Ukraine” offers an opportunity to learn Latvian starting from the beginner level (A1) and beyond, depending on existing knowledge.

The courses are intended for Ukrainian citizens who have completed secondary education in Ukraine, as well as for individuals aged 16 and above who are not registered in any educational institution in Latvia.

The training includes 120 academic hours, and participants can choose the appropriate language level (a placement test is available on our website) or start from level A1. The courses take place in the morning from 10:00 to 13:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Who can participate in the program?

Ukrainian citizens can participate in the program if they:
– Have temporary protection status in Latvia
– Are 16 years or older and not registered in any educational institution in Latvia

How much do the courses cost?

The courses are completely free, as they are funded by the Society Integration Foundation (SIF).
After completing the course, taking the state Latvian language exam is mandatory.

What levels are available?

You can study at one of the following levels: A1, A2, B1, or B2 — depending on your current language proficiency.

How to determine your level?

You can take an online placement test on our website to determine the right level for you.
If you have never studied Latvian before, you can start from level A1.

In what format are the courses held?

Training is available in Online format (remotely via Zoom)

How long is the course?

Each course includes 120 academic hours.

When do the lessons take place?

Lessons are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 to 13:00.

After that, our coordinator will contact you to confirm your participation.

Can I join the course if I am in another city in Latvia?

Yes, if you choose the online format, you can participate from anywhere in Latvia with internet access.

Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?

Yes, upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion.
Taking the state Latvian language exam is mandatory after finishing the course.
